Chinese filmstar Ruan Lingyu committed suicide at 24 due to the pressures  of  the gossip press.
Her funeral stretched for miles and 3 women committed  suicide on the way.

Simon Procter new portraits of Lagerfeld, Versace, Elbaz, Dolce& Gabbana with the artist Berndnault Smilde

Summer 2013, Milan.

The production company has found an old Palace in the centre of Milan, in which I will shoot the portrait of Donatella Versace.

We arrive early, there is not much time and when she arrive s with all her people  there will be even less.

We enter the Palace, they have emptied almost everything to make ready for a major renovation, bright squares stain the antique wallpaper where great pictures must have hung.

Ancient Bakelite electric sockets hang from walls.

It is so beautiful, room after room magnificent, huge 20 feet ceilings, gold mouldings and mirrors everywhere.

Summer 2013, Paris.

We wait in the Grand Palais for Karl Lagerfeld.

We have lit one of the great marble staircases for his portrait. 

All is ready. 

We wait.

Then there is a commotion and he appears behind us with his bodyguard?

He has been driven inside the Palais itself, his Rolls Royce now sits alone in the enormous space.

He smiles warmly and greets every single person.
